John Murphy accompanied Leichhardt's expedition to Port Essington, Northern Territory, in 1844. His sister married J.O. Bradly, a business partner of John and his father James Murphy. Edward Bradly, presumably the son of J.O. Bradly, was employed by Sydney Burdekin, and managed the Burdekin estate after Sydney's death. J.B. F. W. L. Leichhardt, explorer, was born in Prussia. He emigrated to Sydney in 1842 and the following year embarked on the first of series of explorations into Northern New South Wales and Queensland.
